Multiple Bookie System – Shopping For Pointspread Value

Multiple Bookie System – Shopping For Pointspread Value

Back before I began betting online, I had two or three local books who I could call to place a wager.

I did this for a couple of reasons.

First, I knew at least one of my books would bump lines (one of my good friends always had the lines for the local teams bumped on him when I didn’t). Since I had my wagers spread across two or three locals, I didn’t give anyone enough information to know any of my betting tendencies. The other reason that I had my money split between multiple locals was because it provided me some control my money.

I controlled who I bet through, and if I was getting close to the magic amount that signaled it was time to settle up, I could just cool it with that guy if I owed him money, or trying to cash out if I was close to cash out.

Multiple Sportsbooks Accounts

I have seen this question asked in sport betting forums scattered across the internet in one form or another – What are the benefits of having multiple sportsbook accounts?

There are many benefits in having accounts at multiple online sportbooks. Most handicappers have accounts at 2 or more online sportsbooks. At any one given time, I might be using 2-4 different sites during the football season.

Opening an account at a sportsbook is easy and free. After researching the potential sportbooks and reading deposit bonus reviews, choose at least two or three quality sportsbooks with the best bonus codes, register your accounts using the bonus codes and fund your account by splitting your bankroll equally among your accounts.

Now you are ready for the primary reason to have multiple sportsbook accounts – shopping for line value.

Shopping for Line Value

As we all know, the pointspread is nothing more than a sportsbook’s opinion; an opinion that is designed to split the money of all the wagers from its customers equally among the possible outcomes of a game. This opinion opens a market in which you can shop for the most favorable line at the best possible value.

Not all sportsbooks are equal. Some sportsbooks may increase the juice on football games instead of changing the line.  A 5% increase in juice could be added to the cost of a loss with absolutely no extra value for the payout. Since I have two or three other accounts, I can see where I can get the best bang for my buck.

Other sportsbooks might favor one side more than another. In my experience, Bodog Sportsbook seems to favor the underdog. When I am looking to wager on an underdog, I often check out Bodog Sportsbook to see if there is any value in placing a wager there instead of one of the other sportsbooks.

There have been rumors about some sportsbooks bumping the lines of certain games to certain customers according to their betting history. I have heard directly from someone that he received a different line from his friend who placed the same wager at about the same time. Is it true? I don’t know, but I do know that it is a common practice among local books.

As you can see, there are definitely benefits in having accounts at multiple sportsbooks and shopping for line value.  Checkout our reviews and deposit bonuses at our suggested sportsbooks: Diamond Sportsbook, BookMaker, 5Dimes and Bodog.
